DIY Plate Chargers/placemats

Hey everyone!  Just wanted to share a quick project I did!  Easter is around the corner and we will be hosting at our house so wanted to come up with some ideas for the dining table.

The look is modern rustic and here's what you need.

This wood slice is from Michaels.  It took me a few months to get six of them as I waited for those 50 percent off coupons.  So at about $4.00 a piece it was pretty inexpensive.  This is the medium size.

Regular black chalkboard paint.  You can find this at pretty much any hardware store.
I also got a small paintbrush but you can use a sponge brush also.

Make sure you brush off the wood slice before you start painting since there is dust from the wood on them.
Unless you are super sloppy you can use painter's tape.

They dried really quick.

The best part is these can be used all the time! Decorate for any holiday or birthday! I still need two more slices for the head of the table but be sure to look out for the Easter Sunday table decor! Thanks for checking it out!

Another renovation project

Hello! I wanted to share a friend of mine's recent kitchen renovation as well as her home decor.  Her husband did most of the work and it came out fabulous!

Please post any comments here! I am sure her husband would appreciate any good feedback! He worked hard on this :)

It's been awhile and a lot has happened!

So it has been a long time since I have posted on here! I have been super busy with the boys! So much so that my mom took over the blog for awhile.  Thanks Mom!

So....we bought a new house in October of 2015 and have made a ton of renovations!   Special thanks to my husband and father in law for doing most of the labor! But I was and still am completely excited to be putting my design ideas into full swing.

I want to share some before and after photos of different rooms of our house.  First off, this is our lovely home.  We have done some minor updating to the exterior but I will post those pictures on a later date.

This is what the kitchen looked like previously.

I was able to sell the cabinets and appliances on Craig's List which in turn we used that money towards our new kitchen.  We decided on going with Lowe's for the renovation due to our budget and we didn't want a company that could possibly go out of business and then find ourselves in a rough spot if repairs or parts were needed down the road.  We also chose the countertops with Lowe's as well, and decided on quartz due to its look, durability and the fact that you do not have to seal it.  The brand we chose is Silestone and they have recently come out with more styles.  I personally did not like any of the samples that Lowe's carried so I asked the reps from Silestone to bring me some samples when they came to measure the counters.  I wanted the quartz to resemble marble without the price tag.

Here are some pictures of the renovations, beginning with the design stage.

Crazy how it was all empty!!

Once all of the cabinets were hung, it was time to install the appliances and countertops
hmmmm..... where's the oven?
Love my huge farmhouse-style sink!
And the gorgeous countertops!

Aha!  The oven and hood vent!
And finally...a backsplash!
Thanks for stopping by!  I would love to hear what you think of the total kitchen renovation and if you have any questions, just leave me a comment and I'll be happy to answer.  I will post some more pictures tomorrow of the kitchen with decor.  Since the kids are home today the kitchen is a wreck!

Just to add to the post real quick.  The appliances are all Samsung.  The backsplash is a white subway tile also from Lowe's.  The countertops are Silestone quartz, and I believe the color name is Lagoon (Nebula series).  Thank you :)
